The Portales Police Department is starting to conduct Road Assessments for the MVD’s Driver’s Tests. The Road Assessments will be scheduled by appointment only; absolutely NO WALK-INS. To register for a road assessment, a form provided at the Portales Police Department will need to be completed, along with a payment of $35.00. This payment is a non-refundable registration fee, and applicants must pay at the time of registration.

Hours for registration are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Payment is to be made by check or money order made out to the City of Portales.

Requirements for the test date include; the applicant’s learner’s permit, an operable vehicle, valid registration, insurance, and the identification card of the applicant’s parent / guardian. February 26th, 2021, will be the date of the first road assessment. The registration deadline for this date will be on February 19th, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. Scheduling for road assessments after March 1st will be on the first two Fridays of every month from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are taking COVID safety measurements to ensure we keep testers and the community safe.
