Welcome to the City of Portales' web page and welcome to the City of Portales. I, along with the City Councilors would like to take this opportunity to invite  you to pursue the page and let us know how we can be of assistance. 

If you are looking to relocate, visit for a weekend or longer, the links on our website can and will lead you in the right direction.

Portales has been my home town since 1975 and I am proud to be the Mayor of this community. My wife and I have raised our two children here where the small town feel is perfect for families, not to say we as in many small towns don’t have issues. I am proud to say Portales is a town that prides itself on friendly folks, who have a strong faith, great schools and community involvement.

We are home to Eastern New Mexico University and proud neighbors to Cannon Air Force Base, where many of those serving our Country choose to live off base here in “P-ville,” as we are often referred to.

We are so proud of our agriculture based economy. We boast of farms, ranches and dairies along with related industries in peanut processing, milk transportation and processing. We have many small businesses that have been a big part of Portales for years. Motels, restaurants, flower shops, furniture stores and many other retailers that are responsible for our growth and success. Our newest growth opportunity is coming in the renewable energy field.

We have a wonderful local hospital with a state of the art medical clinic. Our City also has an airport for those flying in.
